PRO prepared National Register of Historic Places historic district nomination for previously-unlisted parts of downtown Belleville, Illinois.

Downtown East St. Louis Historic District
East St. Louis, Illinois
PRO undertook the survey and successful National Register of Historic Places nomination for downtown East St. Louis, an area where extensive resource depletion and disinvestment made a historic district challenging to identify and defend. PRO preserved in creating the district in order to qualify buildings for the Illinois River Edge Historic Tax Credit.

Downtown Edwardsville Historic District
Edwardsville, Illinois
In 2019, PRO undertook the survey of this local historic district in order to identify a period of significance and contributing and non-contributing resources help guide review by the Edwardsville Historic Preservation Commission.

Edwardsville, Illinois
PRO updated the National Register of Historic Places nomination for this former utopian industrial village, now part of Edwardsville, Illinois. The original form was less than 12 pages long without a resource inventory; the new form is 205 pages and incorporates the results of PRO’s architectural survey of the district.


MISSOURI

Gravois-Jefferson Streetcar Suburb Historic District
St. Louis, Missouri
PRO prepared a boundary increase to the largest historic district in St. Louis, whose original nomination excluded a city block containing historic resources meeting the district’s registration requirements.

Reber Place Historic District
St. Louis, Missouri
This is a suburban residential district just west of Tower Grove Park in south St. Louis. The Southwest Garden sought designation of this district as part of a project creating the first historic districts in the neighborhood.

St. Louis, Missouri
The southern part of the Fox Park neighborhood centered on the historic St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church was located in a local historic district, but not a national district. This designation helps the neighborhood receive historic tax incentives necessary to tackle vacancy.

Although over 60% of the St. Louis Place neighborhood’s historic buildings were demolished under various urban renewal projects and simple disinvestment, PRO created a district that honors the core of the neighborhood’s residential and institutional architecture as well as the namesake 1850 linear park.

Working with the City of St. Louis’ Cultural Resources Office, PRO secured listing of three National Register districts in the demolition-ravaged heart of the city’s historically African-American neighborhood of The Ville.

Wildwood, Missouri
PRO is working for the city of Wildwood, Missouri to complete a reconaissance survey of each building older than 75 years within limits of the largely rural suburban municipality.

Located in St. Louis’ JeffVanderLou neighborhood, the area around Yeatman Square is one of the few areas in the depleted neighborhood to retain continuous historic fabric. PRO’s version of right-sizing is exemplified here: creating a boundary that honors remaining heritage while providing resources for reinvestment.
